Almost all Vacuum cleaners work on belt and as many styles of vacuum are available that many styles and size the belts are available. The belt is used for driving the machine, which is also known as brush roller. The belts can be round, flat or geared style. The type of belt used by the vacuum will determine how clean your carpet and house is and will show the durability and performance of the machinery. The proper belt will be the ability to keep your house and carpet clean.
The suction power of the machine is also important as this is what pulls the dirt from the area in the carpet or at home and it puts it back into the collection area. The suction becomes important when you are using the vacuum on hard surface or carpets which help them keep clean.
The manufacturers use roller brush that are made of wood, metal or plastic which is driven by brush motor through the suction which can use the three kinds of belts i.e. round, geared or flat. The round belts are the most commonly used and they are the earliest type of belts used by the manufacturers. The round belt is used because the belt usually stretches along the roller and the motor bearing. They were used as they were the easiest to produce and use. The main disadvantage of the round belt is that the dirt passes around the belt, cutting, nicking and even scratching it along.
The flat belts are often run in the circular manner and the twisted route takes the delivery of performance in the direction required. The style of the machine allows the manufacturer to run the belt off the brush roller instead of center. This is the new innovation and this helps in stopping failure due to dirt in the belt path.
The latest belt, the geared type is the best innovation and it is more efficient in driving the brush. In spite of many variations in the belts the geared ones are more efficient and can drive the brush, they are also known as positive brush system as the energy of the brush motor is transmitted directly to the brush.
Here the brush and the motor are kept in fixed teeth through a cogged belt which does not have tension. It gives direct connection and higher cleaning efficiency as the brush in spite of the belt being old drives as a faster speed.
The flat types of belts are the ones which stretch when they become warm and they can lose tension. The vacuum when used with the belt. The belt tends to lose its tension, as the belt will stretch when used.
The only disadvantage of the geared belt is the cost of the vacuum increases. The Geared belts are used on two motor vacuums, and this requires separate suction and brush motor and also electronic sensory system which will inform if something is wrong with the brush or machinery.
