Underfloor heating is a wonderful addition to any home upgrade renovation project. Installing a home underfloor heating system can significantly raise the overall price your home is worth, while simultaneously lowering your energy bills. In short, it’s a smart move for anyone looking for a renovation that will truly help the property. If you are building a new home, finding an underfloor heating system that works for your space can make a huge impact on your design and energy costs as well.

What’s so special about underfloor heating and how does it work? Underfloor heating is a unique system that plays on the historical heating systems of Roman times. The Romans built the hypocaust system to heat their baths and our current underfloor heating system works in very similar ways. Both systems heat water through pipes under the flooring material. Interestingly, the biggest difference between the Roman hypocaust system and our current underfloor heating system will only be the technology used and the electricity to heat up the water. Other than that, the concepts are exactly the same.

Once you have installed electric underfloor heating, there will be no more need for socks! This is due to the effectiveness of the average underfloor heating system. The underfloor system will heat the materials in the flooring and then the warmth gently and easily floats up, bringing the entire room into the preferred temperature. Since the flooring materials are heated first, they stay nice and warm, eliminating the annoyance of having a cold floor beneath your feet. A traditional heating system often leaves the floors cold while the rest of the room is hotter. With an underfloor heating system, your room is heated from the ground up, giving you a healthier environment that is also at the temperature you prefer.

Underfloor heating systems are flexible and can be customised to your needs. You can purchase underfloor heating mats that come with cables that will allow you to place the cables throughout the room. Be sure to note where the appliances, such as the toilet, tub, shower, dishwasher, refrigerator, etc. will be placed in the room so as to avoid placing heating cables under these appliances since this will alter the effectiveness of the system and possibly the appliance! Get more value from your heating bill when you install an underfloor heating system under your flooring today.
